Luna Vista Bed and Breakfast is in the
heart of it all, giving those who are on a quest for
tranquility, or something even greater, a peaceful base
from which to explore this magical place. This October
14th – 19th, it will also become the gathering place of
Earth Dance8, an annual, multi-cultural “earth healing”
ceremony.
Whether it’s the “talking waters” of Beaver Creek, the
centuries-old “Grandmother” and “Grandfather” Sycamore
trees on the creek’s shady banks, or the close proximity
of ancient hubs of life, there’s no doubt that Luna Vista
is situated in a truly special place. The mystical draw of
the land is what drew owners Frank Greene and Kala Pearson
to convert what was originally built as a Y2K disaster
hideout into their luxurious, 3-suite B&B. Soon after
opening the inn, they realized that the place was destined
for something more. “Ninety-nine percent of our guests
come in search of some type of healing,” says Kala.
“Whether they’re in transitions in jobs, relationships or
health, they find this place rejuvenates them.” “It also
seems to be the place where everyone around here likes to
gather, whether it’s for neighborhood events or just
stopping by,” adds Frank. Kala and Frank began exploring
how to use the Luna Vista’s considerable acreage to open
the land’s healing potential to more people while giving
something back to it as well.
At
the same time, Earth Dance8 founder Adam Yellowbird and
his collaborators were looking for a new place with
spiritual significance for their annual earth-healing
ceremony. On a trip to Williams, their vehicle broke down
on I17 at McGuireville, the exit to Luna Vista. One of the
Elders, or Abuelita as Yellowbird refers to her, got out
of the van, looked around and announced, “We’re here.” Her
traveling companions thought she was confused about their
destination and explained they weren’t to Williams yet.
“No,” she explained, “we’re here.” She had sensed that
this was the place to hold the ceremony. Serendipity began
to flow, and not long after that, Kala found out that
Earth Dance was looking for a new home and contacted
Yellowbird. The people of Earth Dance8 found that the
property’s natural symbolism and connectedness to existing
sacred sites made it the perfect location for their event.
Yellowbird describes Earth Dance8 as “An opportunity to
come together as a global people to balance the land and
put prayers into Mother Earth.”
He explains that the Earth is in a state of turmoil, as
evidenced by recent natural upheavals, and it particularly
requires the attention, gratitude and connection of her
people.
The four day ceremony will bring together about 75 of “the
Dedicated,” people who have made a commitment to fast,
pray and participate in intensive ritual for the entire
length of the ceremony. There will also be opportunities
for the general public to experience alternative healing
methods, massage therapy, storytelling, music, a sweat
lodge and various blessing ceremonies throughout the four
days.
Sponsored by the non-profit Institute for Cosmic
Awareness, Earth Dance8 will bring together healers,
shamans, dancers and musicians from several cultures to
engage in the fasting, dancing, sweat lodges, storytelling
and ritual. Spiritual workers from the Hopi and Lakota
tribes, Ecuador, Peru, Tibet, Europe and other parts of
the world will lead the ceremonies. The entire event is
free of charge, but ICA and Earth Dance8 does accept
donations to support the event and their year-round
activities.

“This is a four or five day event, but to us it’s an
everyday way of life,” says Yellowbird. “It’s important to
remember that you can live in this kind of consciousness
every day.”
In collaboration with their neighbor, Kevin Brandeburg,
who will open his adjoining property up for Earth Dance8,
Kala and Frank hope to establish Luna Vista and Runes at
Talking Waters (Brandeburg’s property) as a prominent
retreat center for spiritual work, formalizing the
relationship their guests already seem to have with the
place.
Tucked into the Rimrock/McGuireville area, a short jaunt
away from the metaphysical “metropolis” of Sedona, the
Luna Vista B&B and Runes at Talking Waters is ideally
located for this particular type of travel niche, and the
sumptuous accommodations Frank and Kala have created in
the B&B assures that guests will return again and again,
either with another retreat or for a solo getaway.
