Grand Canyon 2 Day TripA FAVORITE PLEASANT SENSORY OVERLOAD LUNA VISTA B&B Finally, if you get an early start AND wish to make this a 2 day trip, there are two scenic routes to and from the GRAND CANYON from Luna Vista Bed and Breakfast. Allow approximately 8 - 10 hours of drive & stop time each way: DAY ONE This side road can be found on Rt89 halfway between Cameron and Flagstaff. Enter at Sunset Crater and the lava fields and stop at the Information desk for a valuable map and brochure of all the ruins and wonders along the way - right on this road. The road loops north and joins up with Rt89 again right after Wupatki. Simply proceed North (right) on Rt89 and you're headed into Cameron. Continue on to Cameron Trading Post for a late lunch and/or some shopping. Proceed to the GRAND CANYON - EAST GATE Desert View Lookout and then meander across Route 64 South towards the Grand Canyon Village - stopping to catch some awesome views of the Grand Canyon. Once you reach the GRAND CANYON Village prepare yourself for a gorgeous GRAND CANYON SUNSET and fabulous dining and lodging at the impressive historic El Tovar Lodge located in the GRAND CANYON VILLAGE. (Camp sites and other hotels available at reasonable rates within the Grand Canyon Village). DAY TWO -
From the Grand Canyon Village heading back to Luna Vista B and B - take Route 180 past Valle continuing on Route 180 to Flagstaff. You will travel through the Coconino Forest between Valle and Flagstaff. Route 180 will connect to Route 89 in Flagstaff heading towards I-17. You will briefly travel on I-17 exiting onto Rt. 89A. Rt. 89A is a forest winding road descending from 7000 ft to 4000 ft heading south through Oak Creek Canyon ending in Sedona. There are several lookout points and vistas along the way to Sedona. Of course Sedona is a day trip in itself and only a short distance from Luna Vista B and B. IF nightfall, we suggest that you take Route179 through the Village of Oak Creek to I-17 and head south just 1 exit (about 5 miles). If you still have some daylight remaining, then take Rt-179 to Beaverhead Flats Road (Rt120) to Cornville Rd (Rt119). (Beaverhead Flats Rd. starts and stops at Rt. 179 and Cornville Rd.) Take a left at Cornville Rd heading southwest, across I-17 to stop sign. This is the Exit 293 off I-17 and the beginning of Beaver Creek Road. Follow the Luna Vista directions and crescent moon signs from this point. |
